Training e-commerce and digital economy instructors: Preparing for a sustainable digital workforce

Recently in Da Nang, the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in collaboration with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) and the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Da Nang, organized the "Training Program for E-commerce and Digital Economy Lecturers 2025" with the theme "Human Resources for Sustainable E-commerce".

This activity is part of the project "Developing lectures, organizing training and e-commerce events to improve the quality of human resources and develop the market," aiming to standardize teaching, connect training institutions and businesses, and thereby enhance human resource capacity for the digital economy.

The training program is considered an important step in enhancing the capacity of e-commerce and digital economy lecturers, helping them update trends, content, and teaching methods to meet market demands and the rapid development of digital technology.

Attending the program were Mr. Tran Van Trong – General Secretary of the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc – Deputy Head of Policy Department, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), along with more than 70 lecturers and faculty leaders from universities and colleges in the Central region and over 100 VKU students.

Speaking at the program, Dr. Tran The Son emphasized that higher education plays a core role in training high-quality human resources for the digital economy. VKU is currently promoting the transformation of its training programs towards practical application, strengthening cooperation with management agencies and businesses so that students have the opportunity to experience and apply technology during their studies. He hoped that the training program would become a forum connecting training institutions, where lecturers can share resources, methods, and modern teaching experiences.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Tran Van Trong – General Secretary of VECOM – affirmed that human resource development is one of the most important pillars for the sustainable development of e-commerce in Vietnam. He highly appreciated the efforts of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy and its partners in organizing the program, and called on universities to take advantage of this opportunity to innovate training content, strengthen business linkages, and help students bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The training program consists of three thematic sessions revolving around key topics: the National E-commerce Development Master Plan for the period 2026–2030, the E-commerce Law – a review of the period 2016–2025 and proposed amendments, and collaborative training between educational institutions and businesses in the field of e-commerce.

During the in-depth discussion session, delegates focused on exchanging ideas on models of cooperation between schools and businesses in practical training, internships, and professional competency assessment for students. Many opinions suggested the need to build an open curriculum framework, allowing lecturers to easily integrate new content, while also developing a digital learning materials system and a shared data repository for lecturers from different schools to refer to and update.

Representatives from the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy stated that training lecturers is a necessary step to disseminate knowledge, skills, and innovative thinking to thousands of students – the workforce that will directly participate in the digital economy in the near future. The Department will also continue to collaborate with universities, associations, and businesses to develop standardized teaching materials, organize more practical training courses, and aim to form a professional, nationwide community of e-commerce lecturers.

BTC awarded certificates to instructors who completed the training.

The "Training Program for E-commerce and Digital Economy Lecturers in 2025" is not just a short-term training course, but also the starting point for a sustainable cooperation network between management agencies, training institutions, and businesses, contributing to the concretization of the goals of developing the digital economy and digital society by 2025, with a vision to 2030.
